why you should embrace your inner child

I love peanut butter sandwiches. No really, I love them. And yes, really, hold the jelly. They're easy to make, easy to pack (no refrigerating necessary!), SO affordable, and delicious. I'm not sure if most adult women would say their go-to lunch was a peanut butter sandwich. The other day, I was looking around my co-working space and realized most every other grown adult was eating a salad or one of those healthy frozen meals. [no judgement, btw!]

You're probably thinking, why is Diana talking about peanut butter sandwiches? Well, when I was looking around the room that day, at first I felt a little child-ish. Hmm I should probably pack more adult lunches, shouldn't I.

But then, I just smiled to myself, because I remembered something. Embracing the things that make you feel like a child sometimes lead to the most happiness, the most inner joy, the free-est you. And hey, maybe peanut butter sandwiches are one of the ways I do that.

What about you? Perhaps it's a song you like, or movement, or season, clothing, snack, that is just plain fun. Maybe nostalgic too.

Or maybe, it's more experiential. It's playing a kind of game. Getting off of your phone and going exploring! Being silly.

I would encourage you to embrace that thing or things! And embrace your inner child. Why?

  1. Being different is cool. Being yourself is cool. Somewhere along the way as an adult, we forget that. And we shouldn't! You don't owe anyone an explanation for why you like the things you do!

  2. You'll stop putting yourself in a box. Maybe it just takes one fun thing, one childlike experience to see things differently. More possibilities present themselves when your mind is a bit more free.

  3. You're less stressed...because you're happy! Perhaps less connected. Even for just a few minutes.

  4. Finding a sense of wonder. Do you ever find that beautiful imaginative feeling when you do something childlike for a minute? Especially if it's for a longer period of time?

  5. All of the above transfers into being a better you for the rest of the day. At your boring adult job (haha, I kid, I kid!) In your career, your relationships, your friendships...just all of it.

So be encouraged! Do something today that you as a kid would love! Need a reminder? We got those 😉

In the meantime, I'll be making a PB sandwich for lunch...

🧡Diana
